Cost Expectations & Comparisons

When looking at Daikin air conditioners, the costs are okay when compared with other budget sized units. For the price, they don’t offer the best product out there, but they also don’t have the worst product. They’ve been around for quite a while now, but they don’t have the best rating on the internet by people who have actually used the brand of air conditioner. This is important to note, when looking at Compare Daikin air conditioners.

The Daikin air conditioner products aren’t really any better or more reliable than any other brand. The air conditioners have tried to up their game with their new models, however, they’re still lacking in the customer service department. As a whole, Daikin air conditioners don’t have the best reviews, but they aren’t the worst either. You can expect to pay slightly more for their products than other brands that have a better reputation.

Daikin Mini Split Option

This is our preferred option, because more efficient using R-410A refrigerant, suitable for below 50 degree. However, for large area, split system or multi zone purposes, you may consider 3.7 Ton or 5 Ton.

Daikin Heat Pump Option

Best for below -5 degree, except for the 1.5 ton and 1.8 ton models. Below are the recommended heatpump sizes.

Daikin Packaged System Option

Best for below -5 degree, except for the 1.8 ton, 2.0 ton and 2.5 ton models. Below are the recommended Packaged System sizes for each model.

Daikin 3.7 and 5 Ton

More efficient than the 12 SEER, should be consider for large area purpose.

The Importance of a Quality HVAC Contractor

Buying a brand new Daikin air conditioner can be quite a task. However, the first step towards purchasing the right product is compiling a list of pros and cons of the different models. The other equally important factor is selecting an HVAC contractor that can help you find the right model and troubleshoot any problems that might occur later.

One of the most important decisions you have to make when it comes to installing air conditioner at home is to select a qualified HVAC contractor. You can look for an HVAC contractor who can offer you with installation, air conditioning repair, and maintenance of your Daikin air conditioner.

Reputable HVAC contractors must have the required knowledge and experience in dealing with heating and cooling. Therefore, it is necessary that you choose the best HVAC contractor available. You need to speak to them and find out their history of work and past achievements.

HVAC contractors generally offer their you limited warranty for installation. Nevertheless, you will still have to pay a certain amount of money to them for every service they offer you. It is also essential to find out from the HVAC contractor of the brand of air conditioning you would like to install. This will help you determine if they have the required knowledge in installing that brand.

Daikin Model Numbers Explained

Daikin air conditioners have high-quality products. However, there are many models, which can be quite confusing. You can find the best Daikin air conditioner for your home by using this easy pricing and model number guide.

As you can see in the table, the different Daikin AC model numbers all have different model names. However, there is a way to understand the numbering system.

First, the letter in the beginning is from the series of air conditioning. For example, an AC with an F stands for the Fujisun Series. The rest of the letters at the end of the model number is the way that the air conditioners are classified. For example, the AC models that end with VVV are split-type air conditioners, and the ones that end with R or RR are ducted air conditioners.

The last digits of the model number is the same as the output power. For example, the model number “QNVK55HV4U” or “QNVK55HV4V” has a power output of 5,500 watts.

Another way to read the model number is by combining the classification and the power. For example, QNVK55HV4U and QNVK55HV4V stands for the air conditioner that has a split-type output of 5,500 watts.

Energy Efficiency/SEER

It is important to know what to look out for when purchasing a new air conditioner – the Energy Efficiency Rating (or – SEER rating—) is a good place to start. The SEER rating is a measurement of the suitability and efficiency of a cooling system. It tells you how much energy a cooling system will use and how much of it will make it into the air versus the energy that is wasted.

In the U.S.A., the minimum standard for air conditioners is 13 SEER. This meant that, for example, if you have a 2,000 sq/ft. house, you need an air conditioner running at 13 SEER – if it falls below this, then you are wasting electricity. In fact, if you have a smaller home and you buy an air conditioner running at a lower SEER, then your bills can actually go up (because of the greater electricity usage).

Compressor Options

According to the manufacturer, Daikin ACs come with the following compressor options:

The SD Series have Fast Recovery Ducted Evaporative (EDX) air conditioners.

The ETV Series have VRVIII and VRVIII Building Systems.

The EM Series have VRVIII, E-Series and VRVIII Inverter.

The FT Series have R-410A or R22 refrigeration systems.

The FTK Series have VRVIII Inverter.

The FTW Series Heavy Duty have VRVIII Inverter.

The FTX Series have VRVIII Building Systems.

The SEV and SXV have VRVIII Inverter.

The SPX and PVX Series have VRVIII Building Systems.

The TXV and EGVX Series have VRVIII Building Systems.

Pro's:

Con's:

Daikin ACs are manufactured in the same factories and share the same parts, like compressors and coils for example. This means that Daikin are able to offer more energy-efficient products, all in a very cost effective way. It is worth noting that Daikin can only offer products with inverter. Therefore if you are after a non-inverter product, then Daikin is not an option for you.

Single Stage Compressors

Single stage compressors recover quickly when the air conditioner is turned off. They perform really well in hot climates where they have to start and stop frequently. Over time, the only parts that wear out are the parts that come in contact with the air.

Two Stage Compressors

Two stage compressors are also commonly used in split system air conditioners. They produce an extra heat exchanger in the condenser assembly. Two stage compressors have less wear and tear than single stage compressors. The only downside is that two stage air conditioners take longer to cool off than single stage air conditioners.

Three Stage Compressors

Three stage compressors are the crème-de-la-crème. It doesn't mean that two stage compressors are bad. It just means that three stage compressors represent the best of the best. A three stage compressor is especially great for maintaining the temperature. When the air conditioner is shut off, this type of compressor takes longer to start up. However, after the air conditioner starts up, the temperature is kept relatively stable.

Variable Speed/Two Stage Compressors

Daikin air conditioners combine the highest level of energy efficiency with the newest air conditioner motor technology, including the latest compressors and motors. Daikin variable-speed compressors vary the speed of the fan and the motor to follow the changing needs of the room air temperature.

Two-stage compressors start at a higher speed and efficiency setting to quickly remove the main body heat that builds up in a room during the day. Then, before the evening cool-down sets in, the second stage allows the compressor to bring the indoor temperature down to a more comfortable level. This means that your air conditioner will not work as hard during the cooler nights.

Daikin air conditioners have furnace modeling function. When room temperature is between the set points of room-temperature cooling the indoor temperature of each split-system unit is compared with the outdoor temperature. The indoor temperature is not controlled until an outside air temperature is received, at which time Daikin air conditioners synchronously start the temperature control in the room and in the outdoor unit. This function is useful when the outside air temperature varies.

An ideal module design – air conditioning modules are set up in one space. The indoor and outdoor modules are separate; however, the cables are run together in a unique module design.

Daikin air conditioners have SSV (Super Silent Vent)
The force of air out of the air outlet is adjusted automatically and quietly.

Condenser Fan Options

The following circuit diagram shows the various options for connecting the condenser fan controls to the thermostat.

2 wires – when the indoor thermostat calls for cooling, the 24v relay is energized, opening the contacts for C1 (see image), which is wired in parallel with F2, energizing the fan relay F1, in turn energizing the condenser fan motor.

3 wire system – in addition to the 24v relay, the indoor fan motor switch is used. The fan switch, F3, is dissimilar to F1 as it includes a normally open contact, most often used as a hi-limit control, as well as a normally closed contact, most often used for the fan run/on control. When the thermostat calls for cooling, C1 is engaged, energizing the fan relay F1, which F2, which now has the power to energize the condenser fan motor. The fan is also energized via the fan relay F1 if the thermostat calls for fan run (speed).

4 wire system – this system is identical to the 3 wire system, except that the F3 relay contacts no longer power the fan run contacts. The fan relay F1 is still energized if the thermostat calls for cooling or fan run, but not the indoor fan switch. By default, the fan is automatically energized 24v via the fan relay F1.

Heating Options

The Daikin FTXJ35LSV offers a combined heating and cooling system in one self-contained unit. It is able to cool, heat, and provide humidity control, as well as purifying the air. This model doesn’t offer an independent temperature control for heating, only cooling and air purification. The heating capacity of this unit is limited in comparison to similar units, and is most effective in low-temperature situations.

If you are looking for an air conditioner that heats your home, then the Daikin FTXJ35LSV is not your best option. If you have another heating system and are looking for an air conditioner that will cool your home and purify the air, then the Daikin FTXJ35LSV could be a great fit, as it offers many other benefits as well.

The additional benefits that are offered by the Daikin FTXJ35LSV are its low energy consumption, low operating costs, and relatively quiet operation. Have a look at the pros and cons of this unit for heating below to see if this unit is right for you.

Noise Levels

The VRV IV is a single compressor, wall mounted unit. It's exceptionally quiet and ideal for offices and other commercial buildings where noise at night is a concern. If noise is a problem for you, then you will love this model. This model is even quieter than most air conditioners with multiple compressors.

It's so quiet, you wouldn't even know that it's running except for the air moving into the room.

This unit has a low voltage start up which also is great for noise reduction. Running at low starts reduces the vibration of the compressor. Vibration is what creates noise. This is the reason that you could be in a quiet house and still hear the noise of an air conditioner if it's in a room close by.

The VRV IV is perfect if you live in a condo and have neighbors close by, or if you just want quiet cooling for yourself.

Warranty

The Daikin Mini Split Air Conditioner's compressor is covered for 10 years.

The rest of the product has a 2 year warranty.

Warranty & Why It Is Important

The warranty is an important aspect to consider when buying any new machinery, and especially air conditioner. Most air conditioners come with a warranty period to be covered in the case of its malfunctioning within the term of warranty. Daikin's long warranty period is the greatest selling point to consider when it comes to buying Daikin AC. The air conditioner is known for its long lasting performance.

There is also a proper Daikin air conditioner maintenance procedure to be followed in order (to extend the warranty period and to prevent damage to the air conditioner). One is to keep out sunlight. Keeping it clean is equally important. If you have bought the Daikin air conditioner, make sure you do the right Daikin AC maintenance.

There are several positive Daikin Air Conditioners reviews available online that might help you in deciding to buy a AC. If you decide on a Daikin AC then you can be sure of its good performance, low noise and high quality. If you are looking for a reliable Air Conditioner in Melbourne.
